Plovers and Our Beach

chickplover2.gif

The Florida Snowy Plover is threatened nationally and is considered endangered in Florida.  There are only 200 breeding pairs left!  Many of the remaining birds have found our beach the perfect place to raise a family.  Working with State and Local Environmental Agencies our condo Association prepares the beach for the nesting season. From March until June sections of the beach are roped off to allow the birds to nest.  During this time the beach is not raked and may appear untidy.  It is the least we can do to make sure our children have the opportunity to see Plovers in the wild.
